Kilmahew Site Visit
location - St Peter's Seminary, Kilmahew, Scotlanddate - April 2021client - Kilmahew Education Trustauthor - Luke Fitzpatrick (& Maddie Howard)We were kindly invited up to Cardross in Scotland by renowned photographer Maddie Howard, on behalf of the Kilmahew Education Trust, to explore the stunning brutalist gem that is St Peter's Seminary. As the team architect, we split the site into its separate buildings and grounds, spending a full day with each across its varying lighting conditions, exploring the history and structure in depth. Surrounded by world famous graffiti artists work, we explored the daily life of a Seminary resident. From a first arrival driving up the lengthy driveway, a morning routine of meals and education, through contemplation space, the main hall for prayer and a wander through the grounds to the abandoned walled garden’s famous green houses and the Japanese garden.Exploring the famous Kilmahew Castle by Mavic II Drone and the surround golf course landscape with potential plans in mind for site proposals, it was a unique and bucket list item week of friendly Scottish hospitality that started with getting snowed in to the hotel and somehow ended with a tan! With thanks to Maddie for being an excellent host and an absolute pleasure to work with the KET.Luke, Dashcubed
